Common Causes Of A Blocked Drains In Burwood
Your home is filled with everyday items that can gradually clog your drains. Each drain has its own common culprits that can lead to blockages over time.
Shower
Soap scum, hair, and dirt slowly build up, creating a stubborn blockage. Before your drain becomes completely clogged, you’ll likely notice water draining more slowly.
Bathroom Sink
Hair, toothpaste, and soap residue accumulate in bathroom sinks, leading to slow drainage and eventual backups.
Kitchen Sink
Garbage disposals make kitchen cleanup easier, but they can also encourage excessive waste going down the drain. Food scraps, grease, and oil are the main culprits behind kitchen sink blockages.

How To Keep Your Burwood Drains Clear
Preventing blockages is the best way to avoid those emergency plumber visits. Here are some simple but effective tips to keep your drains flowing freely.
Shower: Regularly clean your shower drain stopper to prevent hair and soap scum from slipping through. A clean stopper will go a long way in reducing buildup and blockages.
Toilet: Be mindful of what you flush. Only flush toilet paper and waste—anything else, even if it’s labelled “flushable,” is better off in the bin to avoid clogs.
Kitchen Sink: Keep grease and certain food waste out of the drain. Greasy leftovers, bones, and similar items should go in the bin. When using a garbage disposal, always run water and let it process completely before turning it off.

Have A Blocked Drain In Burwood?
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re dealing with a blocked drain and need it fixed quickly. You’re in the right place. Let’s go over the most effective way to clear a blocked drain and a few common mistakes to avoid along the way.
Know Your Limits When Trying To DIY
If you have a blocked drain, the first thing you would do is try the quick and easy fix first. Those liquid drain clearing solutions you find at the store will only offer a short-term fix at best.
Some homeowners will try to take things a step further before calling in a professional plumber by attempting to ‘snake or hose’ the drain themselves. The ‘snake’ which is also referred to as an auger, is a coil that can reach deep into a drain to clear out the blockage. Putting a plumbing snake in the inexperienced hands of a homeowner could easily end up doing more harm than good.
First of all, there’s the risk of using the auger incorrectly and damaging the pipes. It’s also not uncommon for augers to break as the result of misuse. You could end up having to pay to replace the rented snake, and having to hire a plumber – making the job more expensive than it needed to be.

How Does A Plumber Perform Burwood Drain Cleaning?
The first thing a professional plumber will do is get to the bottom of what exactly is causing your blockage. In some cases, it may be necessary to run our specialised camera through your pipes to take a look at the problems and any potential complications that could arise. Once the issue is properly diagnosed, there are a number of solutions we will consider.
Hydro-Jetting: This is a long-term drain cleaning solution that uses extremely high-pressure water jets to flush out your pipes. The hydro-jetting process removes blockages along with debris and residue to leave your pipes clean. Jet Plus Plumbing is a specialist blocked drain plumber in Melbourne.
What About Sewer Blockages?
A blocked sewer line can cause problems throughout your home or business, and even lead to a nasty sewage backup if the issue isn’t addressed promptly. Sewer issues will typically have a few of the following warning signs.
Hydro-jetting is also an effective method of clearing out sewer lines. However, in severe cases, the sewer line may need to be repaired or replaced of the cause of the blockage is a tree or plant root growing through the main sewer pipe. The most efficient way to have this done would be through trenchless sewer replacement. This method requires specialised equipment that allows us to replace a sewer line without having to dig a big trench through your yard.

About Boronia, VIC
Boronia is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 37 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Knox local government area. Boronia recorded a population of 23,607 at the 2021 census. The area was originally occupied by the Wurundjeri, Indigenous Australians of the Kulin nation, who spoke variations of the Woiwurrung language group. == History == Prior to European settlement, Boronia and surrounding suburbs were often visited by Aboriginals from the Westernport and Yarra Yarra tribes, hunting during the summer months in the Dandenong Ranges and its foothills. The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation are the acknowledged traditional custodians of the land on which Boronia and all of City of Knox is located (source: Knox City Council publication). In its early days of European settlement, Boronia was predominantly an orchard, flower growing and farming area. Boronia was named in 1915 by local Councillor A. E. Chandler (prior to this, Boronia was considered part of Bayswater). Chandler named the suburb Boronia after the plant, boronia, which grew on his property at The Basin. The plant was discovered by Ferdinand von Mueller, an Austrian botanist, who came to Australia during the colonial period. Boronia railway station opened in 1920, leading to an influx of residents and Boronia Post Office opened on 1 October 1920. A further influx occurred in the 1960s and 1970s.
